CfA: EHRI Seminar in Bucharest: The Study of the Holocaust in Romania: Current State and Trends

Location: Elie Wiesel National Institute for Studying the Holocaust in Romania, Bucharest, Romania

The seminar is organized in the framework of EHRI by the Elie Wiesel National Institute for Studying the Holocaust in Romania and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, both part of the EHRI Consortium.

Holocaust research in Romania

This seminar will provide an overview of methods, sources, and current trends in Holocaust research in Romania to historians and others from the humanities interested in the Holocaust. Archivists from collection-holding institutions in Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, and Hungary will provide an overview of the broad range of Holocaust-related materials held by their institutions. The seminar will also include visits to various archives and memorial sites in Bucharest.

EHRI portal

As part of the seminar, participants will be introduced to the EHRI Portal, which contains information on 57 countries, over 1,850 archival institutions, and more than 152,000 archival descriptions.

Informal presentations

In addition to keynote speakers and more structured presentations, there will be several opportunities for participants to offer brief, informal presentations on their current research on the Holocaust in Romania and receive input and suggestions from other participants.

  • Types of primary sources (documents, testimonies, letters, journals, etc.)
  • Accessing and searching primary sources

Call for Applications

The seminar will take place from September 19–23, 2016, at the Elie Wiesel National Institute for Studying the Holocaust in Romania, located in Bucharest.

Travel expenses, accommodation, and food will be supplied by EHRI. Locals who do not require travel or accommodation in Bucharest are also encouraged to apply.
