Théophile Leroy is a Phd student at the Historical Research Center of the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS), Paris. He studies the persecutions and genocide of the Rhine Sinti families occurring in Alsace and Moselle, two territories annexed and ruled by German authorities. Using microhistorical approach and mobilizing Bad Arolsen Archives, he works on the trajectories of the persecuted Rhine Sinti families between 1940 and 1945 to understand the mechanisms, actors and chronologies of the persecutions targeting individuals identified as “Gypsies” or “Nomads” within a Western European borderland territory.
