The Wiener Library, the world’s oldest archive of the Holocaust and Nazi era, has successfully completed its move to new premises. The Library, founded in Amsterdam by Dr Alfred Wiener in 1933, moved to London on the outbreak of war in 1939. For over fifty years it has been housed in a townhouse in Devonshire Street, but after a year of building works and an extensive fundraising campaign, they have now relocated to a fully-refurbished building in Russell Square, at the heart of the University of London.

The new premises gives the Library significantly improved, archive-quality storage for its unique collections, greatly improved reader facilities, a large events area and, for the first time in the Library’s history, a small exhibition area. The Library will officially re-launch on 1st December and will re-open to readers and visitors on 2nd December with our first exhibition, ‘A is for Adolf: Teaching German Children Nazi Values’.

Thank you to everyone that has helped, advised and supported over the past years to make this move possible. We look forward to welcoming you all to the new building over the coming years, and to hosting future London EHRI workshops at our new premises.
