EHRI Partner, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America’s national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust.

The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Information about the Role and the Office

This position is in the Digital Access Division (DAD) in The David M. Rubenstein National Institute for Holocaust Documentation, located in Bowie, Maryland. The DAD is responsible for managing and making accessible a growing collection of digital and digitized historical collections comprising oral history, film, sound, photos, objects, archival documents, and accompanying metadata as well as updating the on-line catalog. The DAD mandate includes ensuring that the tens of millions of digital assets in the Museum's collection are made accessible to a variety of users, and preserving them for future generations, and that our digital, non-digital and print holdings are discoverable through the online catalog. This work includes collaborating with staff across the Rubenstein Institute to digitize the Collection, receive digital acquisitions, integrate metadata from various collections management databases, and to create the best user experience possible in its online Collections Search. The DAD works closely with partners across the Museum to develop and implement the access, management and preservation system architecture that will secure our collections long into the future. The DAD ensures that the Rubenstein Institute remains a global leader in implementing emerging trends and best practices in the management and accessibility of digital historical collections and on-line cataloging.
