Boris Czerny is since September 2000 Professor of Russian literature and civilization at the University of Caen-Normandie, at Laboratory: Erlis (Research Team on Literatures, Imaginaries and Societies). Since September 2021 he is part of the Delegation Institut Universitaire de France as scientific mediator.

He has written around a hundred articles on Jewish literature in Russian and Ukrainian, as well as 7 monographs. His original field of research was philology, but for the last 5 years he has devoted himself almost entirely to the human and spatial reconstruction of the Brest ghetto in Belarus and to the translation of Jewish wedding songs in Belarus.
