Conny Kristel

Conny Kristel is a senior researcher at NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies and Project Director of EHRI. Conny holds a PhD in History from the University of Amsterdam. Before joining NIOD she worked among other things as a freelance journalist and writer, while preparing her dissertation. She also held several part-time positions in academic research (project) management. Conny has been leading on several (international) projects on the impact of the Second World War on European societies. Her particular expertise lies in the historiography of the Holocaust, the aftermath of the Second World War and the cultural history of the First World War. Currently she is focusing increasingly on the digital agenda for the humanities.

Conny is on the editorial board of NIOD’s book series Studies on War, Holocaust and Genocide with Amsterdam University Press. She works on several international projects and committees. Most notably, she is one of the directors of the Digital Research Infrastructure for Arts and Humanities (DARIAH), a European ESFRI project to create an integrated research infrastructure for digital arts and humanities, a key initiative for the upcoming Horizon2020 framework and shared between 15 European countries.
